It is
interesting to note that the big three – Microsoft, Oracle and IBM – each offer
some products but don’t seem to have a clear strategy in the Learning
Management space. Only SAP has a clear
strategy but its solution is definitely not best-of-breed.

Microsoft Live Meeting (Microsoft) http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX010909711033.aspx
Formerly PlaceWare.
This is the only product Microsoft offers in the LMS/e-Learning space
and they purchased it from Placeware. They also have the original basic product –
NetMeeting which they no longer appear to support. Microsoft does have a page on its website on
e-learning https://www.microsoftelearning.com/
but it is about e-learning courses that they offer to help people with
Microsoft product skills and not about software products that they offer for
others to use.
·
Oracle Learning Management (Oracle Corp.) http://www.oracle.com. Appears to supersede Oracle iLearning. It is
difficult to know exactly what Oracle is offering at any given time. They also have Oracle Collaboration Suite and
PeopleSoft Enterprise Learning Management.
Oracle has also purchased Siebel which used to offer a solution called
Siebel Learning – apparently discontinued.
Siebel also had a simulation tool called Siebel SimBuilder. It is still listed on a price list but there
is little other evidence that it still exists.
·
IBM Lotus Learning Management System
(IBM) http://www-142.ibm.com/software/sw-lotus/lotus/offering6.nsf/wdocs/homepage and Workplace Collaborative Learning
(IBM) http://www-142.ibm.com/software/workplace/products/product5.nsf/wdocs/lwclhomepage.
These systems appear to replace Lotus Learning Space but it is unclear
to what extent IBM supports these. Their
consulting practice often recommends other platforms.
